Plot
Howard Kempt (James Stewart) tracks murderer Ben Vandergroat (Robert Ryan) for the $5000 reward, which he hopes to use to repurchase his cattle ranch which his ex-fiancée got sold when he was serving in the army. Tidy enlists the trite mineworker to help him & unknowingly allows the freed soldier to joaround in his quest. He eventually captures Vandergoat (& a killer's girl), however tension rises when Vandergoat seeks to turn his capturer against both more & Kempt to keep his money.
